Fringe and Flair

By definition, the word “flair” means “originality, stylishness”, which is so appropriate given my recent obsession with flared bell bottoms and all things 70’s. While it is no secret that the retro, boho look is back in style, I like to think that my current style obsession has a hint of originality. Inspired by Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and many other 70’s style icons, my look is a cacophony of colors, textures and flares. Carefully curated, my closet contains vintage finds, pieces from college I can’t yet part with and trendy items that weren’t quite worth the big bucks (Thank you and I love you, H&M and F21).

I could write a post on why and how I have found myself in this love affair with the 70’s (and perhaps I will, if I can ever answer those questions) or I could write a post on how to acquire the perfect boho-chic look, but at the end of the day, I don’t have the answer for either of those things. I like what I like and I put on what feels rights. One of the biggest parts of adult-ing is figuring out who you are and what makes you happy. And finding your own personal flair is no exception. For me, that has been flow-y tops, funky hats, bell sleeves, knee-high boots, bell bottoms, textures and colors.

Perhaps in a few months, or a year, or in a decade, I will look at these pictures and cringe, but for now, if I wanted to rock overalls or knee-high fringe boots, you better believe I am going to do it. Life is too short for coulda, woulda, shoulda, especially when it comes to fashion.

So take a chance and rock that outfit you’ve been dreaming of. Add a bit of out-of-the-box flair to tomorrows outfit. And whatever you do, don’t let the haters dull your sparkle.

Work it. Own it. Love It.
